The Best Stanley Accommodation: Luxury in TasmaniaAre you looking for the best Stanley accommodation?

After my recent trip exploring the spectacular north and west coast of Tasmania, I’m convinced that I’ve not only found the best Stanley accommodation available but also the best accommodation for my Tasmania trip so far.

To be honest, I didn’t know too much about Stanley before arriving at in Tasmania. It was only after speaking to a few locals while travelling around that the name Stanley kept cropping up again and again.

It soon became apparent that it’s a place that should be on any Tasmania road trip.

About Stanley

Stanley is a small village in Tasmania’s North West found at the base of an extinct volcanic plug.

Stanley Tasmania

With a population of just 500, Stanley is a quiet place to retreat and spend a relaxing few days or weekend away from the crowds. It’s popular with visitors coming from other parts of Tasmania, Australia’s mainland, and overseas.

Life doesn’t get any more stress-free when all your day involves is climbing The Nut, relaxing on the beach, finally followed by eating too much ice cream at The Chocolate Gallery & Cafe.

Did I mention that the nearby Cape Grim weather station has recorded this corner of Tasmania as having the purest air in the world? So sort after is the air in Tasmania that one Australian Company is reportedly bottling it up and selling it to China!

Stanley Tasmania

The history of Stanley Village goes al the way back to the year 1825 when Tasmania was known as Van Diemen’s Land. A group of merchants from London were granted 250,000 acres of land in the North West for a wool growing venture.

Employees of the company set sail from England and finally settled in the area in October 1826.

Stanley Tasmania

Like ports in the Falklands and Canada, Stanley gets its name from Lord Stanley, the British Secretary of State for War and the Colonies at the time, who later became the British Prime Minister.

Horizon Deluxe Apartments

From the moment we arrived at Stanley Village, we treated to some picturesque views of the Bass Straight. Then once we checked into the Horizon Deluxe Apartments, we were utterly spoilt full stop.

Checking in, which can often be a formal process of filling in paperwork, handing over ID, etc. was done and dusted in less than a minute. Australia is known for being laid back and it doesn’t get more laid-back when you’re told, “just leave your key on the table when you check out.”

Our apartment was everything that someone looking for a relaxing break could want and more.

We opened the door to an unbeatable personal view of Stanley and the surrounding beaches.

Godfrey (our apartment name) was furnished in a modern style and had everything a traveller could ever need.

For us, it was not only the best Stanley accommodation but a comfortable home away from home during the time we were there.

The Apartment

The first thing that stands out once you walk inside the apartment is the huge Jacuzzi bathtub situated in the corner of the room.

Comfortably fitting two people, the Jacuzzi provides the perfect place to unwind while you enjoy the view outside.

Throughout the entire apartment, it became apparent that the staff at Horizon Deluxe Apartments have paid attention to their guest’s needs.

Sitting back with a cup of coffee in hand I couldn’t think of anywhere else I would have rather stayed.

Once feature I didn’t expect to find tucked away behind a door was a washing machine and spin dryer, but again it shows attention to the small things. Perfect for those who plan on staying for a few extra days or have been touring Tasmania and need to take care of some laundry.

Full extras such cable TV, DVD/CD player and a serious surround sound system are also available for use.

Even the bathroom and shower were in a league of their own, covering the size of some budget hotel rooms.

A major plus is the kitchen area and full catering facilities. Although we mostly ate out the day, it was perfect for cooking the included breakfast.

The dishwasher was also a welcome bonus – just because no one likes to wash up!

The kitchen facilities included:

  • Full oven
  • Microwave
  • Fridge and freezer
  • Toaster
  • Kettle and separate coffee maker
  • Various pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups & cutlery

Best Stanley Accommodation

Although we had activities planned during our visit to Stanley, every time we returned after a long day the views from Horizon Deluxe Apartments never got tiring.

No matter if you’ve opened the balcony door to a cool morning or are shutting the electric blinds to a clear night full of stars, the views, in my opinion, are the best you will find from any accommodation in Stanley.

The outdoor balcony and surrounding have enough space to enjoy eating Al Fresco style, while still having plenty of privacy from the other apartments.

A full breakfast was provided for every morning with a wide selection of foods to satisfy even the biggest eaters.

Breakfast included bread, croissants, jam, bacon, eggs, sausages, orange juice and milk, plus more than enough Muesli, Weetabix and Cornflakes for the two of us.

To complement the breakfast, there was a selection of tea and surprisingly good coffee from the machine in the kitchen.

The staff were excellent to deal with from the moment we contacted them via email and throughout our stay once we arrived. Then again, it’s not like we had to request much.

The Godfrey studio apartment we stayed costs $350 AUD per night. There are also one and two bedroom luxury apartments available.

For cheaper options, check out their sister business the Stanley Seaview Inn as they offer rooms from $125 AUD a night.

The Stanley Nut

If you are visiting Stanley, the then climbing to the top of the core of an extinct volcano is a must do.

Climbing the Stanley Nut

The Stanley Nut rises 152 metres, and once at the top, you can see 360-degree views of Stanley, The Bass Straight, and the Rocky Cape National Park.

The climb, although steep, looks harder than it was and only takes around 15 or so minutes.

Riding the Stanley Nut Chairlift in #Tasmania

We walked to the top and to mix it up took the chairlift back down.

The cost of the chairlift is $16 return, or $10 AUD one way per person.

Thank you to all the staff for their hospitality, not just the ones we had contact with but also those who work hard behind the scenes to help make our stay perfect. And special thanks to Rose for organising such a great room for us.

It was appreciated!

What a great view from the jacuzzi! And that is the most unique showerhead I’ve seen lol. It’s definitely a luxury accommodation so probably not somewhere us budget travelers would stay. I wonder how much the average airbnb is in Tasmania…

Wow, how uncharacteristically sunny! When we visited Stanley it was covered in low cloud but had seen the Nut from afar earlier that day. Have to say, that accommodation looks incredible and with great views. Tassie really is amazing and even though I was just there in December, can’t wait to go back!
